Registration
Fill out the registration form above. Payment will be made on site by cash. Pre-registered players must show up by 10:45 am or they won’t be paired.
Maximum capacity is 60 total participants. Players registering beyond that will be wait listed and only able to play in the event of no-shows.
Format: The exact format of each section will depend on the number of participants but players should expect to play 4 games.
Time control: Game in 25 minutes with a 5-second increment.
Entry fee: $15 if pre-registered online by 10 PM, Monday, February 18, $20 afterwards and on site. CFC rated. ACA junior membership required.
Byes: Up to two 1/2-point byes are allowed in rounds 1-3 if requested before the start of the tournament.
Approximate Schedule
On-Site Registration: 10:15 am – 10:45 am
Rounds 1 and 2: 11:00 am – 12:30 pm
Lunch break: 12:30 pm – 1:00 pm (pizza will be provided)
Rounds 3 and 4: 1:00 pm – 2:30 pm
Tie-breaks (if necessary) and awards: immediately after the completion of the last round
Prizes in each section
1st place: Free entry to the 2019 Alberta Youth Chess Championship (held on Apr 20-21 in Fort McMurray) + $100 of professional chess coaching.
2nd place: Free entry to the 2019 Alberta Youth Championship
Top Girl – Medal.

Tie-Break Procedures
In case two or more players are tied for first place, the following tie-break procedure will apply:
1) Head to head result. This will only apply if all the players in a tied group played each other.
2) Tie-break match. If two players are tied, they will play a two-game match with the time control of Game/10
minutes + 5 seconds per move.
If more than two players are tied, they will play a round-robin tournament with the same time controls. If the tie is
still not broken, the procedure will be repeated; however, the time control will be:
Game/3 minutes + 2 seconds/move time control.
Tie-breaks for all other places will be determined by the following criteria:
If Swiss system pairing system is used:
a) Buchholz (total scores of opponents)
b) Sonnenborn-Berger (total scores of opponents beaten plus half the scores of opponents drawn)
c) Most wins
d)Most games with the black pieces.
If the tournament is played in a Round-Robin format:
a)Sonnenborn-Berger (total scores of opponents beaten plus half the scores of opponents drawn).
b) Koya System (Only counting the scores of opponents who scored 50% or more).
c) Most wins
d)Most games with the black pieces.
