The Calgary International takes place December 26-30. Currently, GMs Camilo Ernesto Gomez Garrido and Dimitri Komarov are the top seeds. Details on the main event can be viewed here.

As a reminder, the first event of 2024 is the Schleinich Memorial Sectional, January 5-7 in Calgary.

The 2024 Schleinich Memorial Sectional is the first event of 2024. It will take place at the Calgary Chess Club, January 5-7.

Registration is open, and full information is available on the Calgary Chess Club website.

The WBX Team Tournament is December 16-17 in Edmonton. Teams are composed of three players whose average rating is no more than 2000. The deadline for registering a team is Monday, December 11, after which teams will only be added to make an even number.

This tournament is a qualifier for the 2024 Alberta Closed.

Congratulations to NM Anand Chandra from Calgary who won the 2023 Banff Open in an Armageddon playoff beating IM Raymond Kaufman from Vancouver scoring 5/6. This year saw a record turnout of 132 players. Sherzod Khodjimatov from Calgary let Raymond Kaufman escape with a perpetual check in the last round to tie for 3rd with IM Leon Piasetski from Vancouver.
