2024 Alberta Chess Challenge

The Alberta Chess Challenge takes place in Red Deer on April 6th. This tournament determines Team Alberta for the 2024 Canadian Chess Challenge, where grade winners will represent Alberta in New Brunswick on the May long weekend.

2024 Alberta Rapid & Blitz Championship Results

Congratulations to Alex Yam and Emil Soberov on shared first (6/7) at the Alberta Rapid Championship. Congratulations to Jinghui Bai (12.5/13) on first place at the Alberta Blitz Championship, and Dale Haessel as runner up.

2024 Northern Alberta Open Results

Congratulations to Tymur Keleberda on winning the Northern Alberta Open last weekend with a perfect 5/5 score! Keleberda and Jeffrey Xu were 4/4 going into the final round, in which Keleberda won their critical game. Mahan Eshragi dropped his only half point in the final round to finish solo second. Third place was split by Xu, Samuel Hoekman, Maxim Vasic, Yash Darvekar, and Eric Jin at 4/5.

An extra congratulations to 8-year-old Michael Prianichnikov, whose 3/5 score and 2001 performance rating earned a top 10 finish and over 100 CFC rating points.

2024 Edmonton & Calgary Chess Challenge

The Edmonton Chess Challenge takes place Saturday, March 9th and the Calgary Chess Challenge takes place Sunday, March 17th. These events are by grade level (1-12) and lead up to the Alberta Chess Challenge on April 6th.

ACA 50th Anniversary Tournament

The Calgary Chess Club has posted information on the ACA’s 50th Anniversary Tournament, which will be a rapid event on Saturday, January 20th and a blitz event on Sunday, January 21st, at the Calgary Chess Club. More details can be found here for rapid and here for blitz.
