Tournament format: 6-round Open Swiss, CFC rated all sections and FIDE rated in over 1600 section and over 2000 section.   1. 2000 and over  2. Under 2000 3. Under 1600

CFC membership is required and may be purchased on site. Annual membership is $43 for adults, $28 for juniors. CFC tournament membership is $21 for adults, $11 for juniors.

Time Control: Game in 90 minutes + 30 seconds/move

Round Times
Friday, November  10: 12 noon and 5 pm
Saturday, November 11: 10 am  and 3 pm
Sunday, November 12: 10 am and 3 pm

Pre-registered players (which means you have paid already) do not have to check in before round one. Please show up at 11:45 for pre-tournament announcements.

Discounts: (deduct from regular price)
$20 Juniors (under 20 years old),  senior players (over 65), FMs, females, first time CFC players ** Only 1 discount per player.

** for foreign players, USCF rating, (FIDE rating + 125 points) or CFC rating will be used, whichever is higher **

Playing up a Section: Players who were not rated high enough when they registered or on Nov 9, can play up one section for an additional $40.

Registration: *** Entries are now CLOSED ***

** Maximum space 130 players after we start a waiting list. There is a $20 charge to withdraw up to Nov 7, then entry fee is non refundable **

Byes: A maximum of two half-point byes available in rounds 1-5 if requested before the start of round 1. A round 6 bye is a 0 point bye.

Withdrawal: Please inform the director if you plan to withdraw from the tournament.

Prizes: ((100 % of the Sum of entry fees, minus the ACA dues of $10 per paid entry and minus other expenses not covered by ACA))  $500 added to 1st prize. If a tie, then an Armageddon playoff for the $500 anonymous donation. Armageddon rules will be posted at site.

BANFF OPEN 2023 CHESS COVID POLICY

Currently, there is not much in terms of COVID protocol for the province of Alberta or the Banff Centre campus. Masks are no longer required on campus (can still be worn if preferred) and mandatory social distancing is not in effect. If a participant is showing symptoms and/or has tested positive, they should isolate at home for 5 days from the start of symptoms and wear a mask for the next 5 days while in indoor spaces with other people. We then would let other participants know they could be a close contact.

No eating is allowed in tournament rooms. Drinks are permitted.

Accommodation: Special chess rates at Banff Centre. $165 for double
occupancy, add $20 for a additional person, up to max of quad plus
applicable taxes. Superior King Plus – $185, Superior Executive Suite $235, Superior one bedroom suite $255, Lloyd Hall Studio $285. Guestroom rates are subject to a facility fee of $15.00 plus
GST per person, per day. This fee includes: campus-wide Wi-Fi, phone calls
across North America, access to Sally Borden Fitness and Recreation
facilities, parking, access and borrowing privileges at The Banff Centre
library and archives, and access to complimentary arts and programmed
