3 Day Beginner Chess Camp
August 29-31
This all-girls chess camp is designed for beginners ages 8-16. You’ll learn how to set up the board and move the pieces, how to record your moves in chess speak, and all the basics of chess. After this camp, you’ll be ready to play in your first tournament!
The camp will feature a mix of group work led by team leaders, lectures from WIM Agnieszka Matras-Clement, casual and serious games, game analysis, a simul, and more!
There’s an amazing group of teen leaders who will be helping out!
Lunchtime will include a visit to Westmount Park and physical activities (waiver required.)
Space restricted to 24 participants. Space is only reserved once payment has been received.
Cost of the 3 day camp: $70. There is a $5 discount for each additional sibling. $10 discount if registered by July 31.
Included: Two snacks per day, t-shirt, and prizes. For any camp participant who goes on to participate in the ACA Over/Under 1800 tournament on Sept 1-2, the ACA will pay for their yearly junior CFC membership (a $28 value). Please bring your own lunch! T-shirt only guaranteed if registered by August 24.
2 Day Intermediate Chess Camp
August 30-31This all-girls chess camp is designed for players who already know how to move the pieces, record moves, and play the game, but who haven’t reached a CFC rating of 1200. Girls ages 8-16.
The camp will include games, lectures, casual chess, a simul, and more!
Space restricted to 16 participants. Space is only reserved once payment has been received.
Lunchtime will include a visit to Westmount Park and physical activities (waiver required.)
Cost of the 2 day camp: $50. There is a $5 discount for each additional sibling. $10 discount if registered by July 31.
Included: Two snacks per day, a t-shirt, and prizes. Registration and Payment
To register, please fill out the form above. Payment should be made with a check made out to the Alberta Chess Association and mailed to PO Box 11839 Main, Edmonton, AB T5J 3K9. Space is only reserved once payment has been received. Payment must be received by Friday, August 24 to guarantee space; in order to receive full reimbursement for cancelation, cancelation must be received by this date. (If you are positive you are coming, we can accept exact cash or a check onsite during registration.)
Please note that all camp participants will stay onsite at the Edmonton Chess Club during camp hours; however, there will be an option for participants to walk in guided groups to Westmount Park (four blocks away) for the lunch break. Only participants whose parents have signed a waiver are eligible to go to the park. Other participants will remain indoors at the ECC during lunch. Waiver will be available at check in.
