Eligibility:
 Must have reached 50 (or 65) by December 31, 2018; Canadian citizens or residents only please.

Space is limited to 40 players!

Schedule:

Friday, August 3: on-site registration: 5:30-5:50 pm.
Opening Ceremony & announcements: 6:00-6:20 pm
Round 1 at 6:30 pm

Saturday, August 4: Round 2 at 10 am; Round 3 at 3 pm

Sunday, August 5: Round 4 at 10 am; Round 5 at 3 pm

Monday, August 6: Round 6 at 10 am; Round 7 at 2:30 pm
Closing Ceremony immediately after Round 7

Format: 7-round open Swiss, CFC & FIDE rated; Two sections: (50+) & (65+)
Time control: Game in 90 minutes with a 30-second increment from move 1
A 30-minute break between games is guaranteed. Default late time is 60 minutes.
Entry fee: $70 if paid by July 1, 2018; $80 if paid by August 1, 2018; $100 after that and on-site (space permitting).CFC membership is required and may be purchased on-site. Annual CFC membership is $43, while a single CFC tournament membership is $21.
Prizes: 80% of entry fees are returned as prizes. The first place finisher in each section will receive an ACA travel grant worth up to $1,000 to attend the 2018 World Seniors Championship or the 2018 Pan-American Seniors Championship. ACA travel reimbursement policies are in effect:
Byes: A maximum of two ½-point byes available in rounds 1-6 if requested before the start of round 1.
Accommodations: There are 5 hotels of different comfort/price levels within a 10 minute walking distance from the tournament venue. There are over 10 within a 10 minute drive. We will likely establish a special offer with one of the hotels.
Tie Break for receiving the travel award: (cash prizes split equally)
1) Head to Head Result (if two players are tied)
2) Cumulative Scores
3) Bucholz
4) Sonnenborn Berger
5) Total Wins
6) Total Games with the Black pieces
Registration process: Fill out the Registration Form above. Space is limited to 40 players. Spot is guaranteed once payment is received. Payment options: Online payment via Paypal (payment button is below). Payment by cheque should be made out to the “Calgary Chess Club” and mailed to the above address.

Lecture and Simul: International Master Leon Piasetski will conduct a lecture and simul open to all, on Thursday night,August 2nd at the Calgary Chess Club located at: 3359 27 St NE, Calgary, AB.  Lecture is on: “How to beat GMs” at 6:30pm.  Simul at 7:30 pm.

$10 per event with payment to be done on-site either by cash, or cheque made out to the Calgary Chess Club.

IM Leon Piasetski is a 5 time member of the Canadian Chess Olympiad team and a known chess coach.  IM Piasetski is a 2016 Canadian Senior Champion –  a title which he will attempt to repeat at this year’s event.
